Cocheco River Landing Dredge Support
MT provided dredge support at a Former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) on the Cocheco River in Dover, NH. The project required close coordination with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) whose contractors were conducting navigational dredging. Careful coordination was required between the dredge contractor and MT for scheduling as well as navigation of barges up and down the river. This was accomplished with no interruption of site activities.
The Cocheco River is tidally influenced and MT's workplan required a schedule that flexed with favorable work conditions for installation of earth support, piles and armor placement. Site access was limited due to surrounding buildings and business and the majority of the work was conducted from barges on the river. The project was completed during the winter months, where inclement weather and icy conditions demonstrated MT's ability to adapt to any environment. Based on the colder than normal winter season, significant ice breaking was required to keep the work area open for the movement of barges to conduct the work.
Based on the existing storm water discharge system for the City of Dover and natural sedimentation from the Cocheco River sand was naturally deposited on the slope stabilization stone aggregate. This was observed at the site and MT's Project Manager recommended to the client that the gravel sand layer be eliminated. This was accepted by the engineers and client providing a cost and schedule savings.
